Elder Colton Nielsen

Colton the oldest grandson in the Scott Nielsen Family, Chad and Kay's oldest, is leaving on a mission. He will be serving in Phoenix, Arizona. Sunday was his farewell, and after hearing him speak in church I know that he will be the BEST missionary. I had to smile when I sat down next to Shelby in sacrament she said, "This is the first cousin missionary to leave, and it is so weird." She read my mind and expressed my thoughts it was weird to think that my nephew the one I use to babysit was leaving to serve a mission for our church. I couldn't be a prouder aunt! We had one last get together after church. I wanted some pictures with Lexie and Colton. Lexie made sure to Smile Pretty :).

All Girl!

Lexie LOVES to play in my purse. Whenever its within reach she empties it out item by item including my wallet. The process is entertaining for her and it allows me a little bit of time to get something accomplished. I tolerate it and every night I go through the ritual of putting the purse back together so its ready for the next day. Saturday night I was busy making Christmas cards and her dad was in charge. He found her in the kitchen having the time of her life. For once I had a little bit of cash in my wallet and she was loving it. My how the learn so quickly!! In fact for most of the night she crawled around clutching a twenty dollar bill.

Ryan Turns Another Year Older

Ryan turned 32 on December 3. He was working on his birthday so we celebrated it two days later. (I 've noticed that whenever I post an event Ryan is always working, it may seem like he works alot. In reality he doesn't, it just happens to be a coincidence. He only works an average of 10 days a month. Lets not forget this. He does provide for his family, but he has a nice job.) His favorite cake is a spice cake with carmel icing. I attempt to make it every year but it never turns out. The cake is always dry and the frosting is hard, but you know what they say, its the thought that counts. I made him blow out his candles in an effort to teach our slow child. I tried to teach Lexie how to blow out a candle before her birthday and she never caught on. Lexie and I gave him a bag that straps on the back of the 4-wheeler. It also has a seat so there is a place for Lexie and I to sit when we go on rides.

Birthday Party Pictures

Birthday Party

Lexie had a great 1 st birthday party. She had a lot of friends and family come celebrate her first year. Jodie had helped me make invitations with a cute giraffe. The giraffe theme was carried on to the cake. Ryan thought I was being ridiculous and thought the cake would never turn out. He bet me that I would be at Wal-mart buying a cake before it was all said and done. Three cake boxes later and 2 jars of frosting we had a cake! Lexie didn't know what to think of all the people at her house and she cried when we sang Happy Birthday. I think her favorite part was when she got to eat her cupcake.

First Year Flashback

Lexie Turns the BIG O-N-E!

Can you believe it, Lexie had a birthday! That's right my little girl turned the big #1. The last year has gone by so quickly. It has been a year filled full of new experiences, ones that Ryan and I wouldn't trade for anything. Looking back on our first eight years of marriage Ryan and I had some great times before Lexie. We were able to spend some quality time getting to know each other and just having a good time. We made a lot of great memories. Now life is just different. Its hard to explain, but this little life that came into ours on November 26, 2007 has changed EVERYTHING! There isn't a day that goes by that she doesn't flash that irresistible smile and melt our hearts. There has been more laughter and happiness in our lives since her birth. Her birthday this year fell on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. A party was planned on the following Sunday so we spent her birthday together as a family. She was able to open a present and we had a small Thanksgiving dinner together since her daddy had to work the next day.

Getting Ready For Thanksgiving Dinner!!

This year our little family of three had plans to go to Moab Utah to play on our ATVs with Chad's Family and Shawn and Lacie. Due to some bad luck and the fact that we were feeling really poor, we canceled last minute and stayed home. Ryan went to work and Lexie and I went to Uncle Dennis' House. I decided that since we had time we would try to curl Lexie's hair.Unfortunately her hair was cuter with the curlers in. The end result was disastrous and we ended up washing her hair again! Even with really bad hair Lexie and I had a nice time visiting with family. I am so very grateful for everything I have been blessed with. This thanksgiving I was especially grateful that I wasn't 36 weeks pregnant and miserable. As Grandma Whitten put it, and I quote, "Last year she was as big as a BARN!!"

Lexie, Lexie Pumpkin EATER....

I finally carved out my very large pumpkin and took pictures of Lexie inside. I did it weeks ago but as you can see I have been horrible about updating my blog. Ryan once again was at work and I was on call. So, Hannah was staying with Lexie and I so I would have a sitter on hand if I needed to go into the hospital. What would I do without her? Anyhow, I decided that it would be a perfect weekend to carve out the pumpkin since I had an ambitious 10 year old to take on the task. We didn't tackle the largest pumpkin although it probably would have worked better. As you can tell Lexie wasn't terribly excited about the whole situation.

My Mother and Twilight!

So, last night I phoned my mother and she disgustingly told me how upset she was at me for passing around my twilight series. My sister Kim had given them to her and she had decided to see what the fuss was all about and now she is sucked in like the rest of us. My mother has never been much of a reader so I was shocked. Now we need to have a girls night to watch the movie!

Halloween

Happy, Happy, Halloween!!!

This year for Halloween Julie had a party at her shop in Shelley. It was a costume party and she wanted everyone to dress up. So we did, and she DIDN'T. I guess I should be understanding, because she was busy making sure the party was great for everyone. The shop even got decorated, it was great. Most of the family was there, along with a few extras. I think everyone enjoyed themselves. We played Poor Pussy, had a treasure hunt and pulled donuts off a string. Of course Ryan Decided to end the night with a BANG! He backed our car into Julie's truck. My little Honda didn't fair well. It smashed the trunk in and didn't even scratch the truck.
**101 Dalmations** Cruella DiVille, Lucky and Jasper

Lexie's first piece of Halloween candy was a Sucker and as you can see she ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! She sucked it almost to the Tootsie Pop Center.

Mattie Lives On

So, despite Ryan's honest efforts Mattie, our poodle, is home from the vets and is doing well. Everyone that knows me is aware that Mattie has been my "child" for six years. I have spoiled her so rotten that Julie (her previous owner) refuses to take her back! She sleeps with me, eats with me, and she thinks that she needs to go everywhere I go. Mattie has been replaced and it has been a difficult adjustment for her and us. She is no longer the one and only, and now at times is just a complete annoyance. In addition she is absolutely horrible with kids. She has bit our babysitters, our friend's children and growls at Lexie. For months Ryan has been threatening to find her a new home. He's even tried bribery. His terms where this; If I get rid of Mattie he will HIRE someone to lay new carpet upstairs.
Last week Mattie became ill. She would no longer beg at the dinner table, wouldn't bark at our Chocolate Lab Libbie, and basically remained on the couch 24/7. After a week of watching her health decline, I decided that I had better take her to the vet. On Wednesday I dropped her off on the way to work. I was told that she had an infection in her Uterus and would need to be Spayed. I consented and also asked them to clean her teeth while they had her under anesthetics. A few hours later the vet called and told me that I was looking at $500.00 in expenses with the teeth cleaning. They had opened her up and the infection was more severe than anticipated and she would need a couple of days at the vet's with IV antibiotics. Then in hesitation I told the vet about her aggressive behavior towards children and my need to get rid of her. She then said for $37.00 I could have her put to sleep easily and she would never know. I started to cry and told her I'd call her right back after talking to Ryan.
He of course said to go ahead and do it. I told him that I couldn't call and tell them to kill my poor Mattie and he would have to make the final call. I had a complete break-down at work and left the hospital in tears. WHAT DRAMA! I headed over to the vet clinic only to find Mattie waking up from surgery ALIVE. Ryan hadn't called, and Mattie is now home and back to herself. DOES ANYONE WANT A POODLE??????

A Weekend With The Ricks Children

This last weekend I babysat the Rick's children so their parents could get away for the weekend. Luckily the weather was beautiful and I had some fall clean-up that need to be taken care of, so I put them to work pulling weeds, and gathering hoses. Of course they loved it because they got to ride around on the 4-wheeler. It was an interesting weekend, Ryan was out at work the entire time. So, it was me and five children. Lets take about being baptized by fire. I even took them all to church! My ward members got a kick out of seeing me in a mini-van. A few stopped in the parking lot and offered to help us inside. They probably couldn't believe that I was there on time to sacrament with 4 extra children. We survived with no problems and even had lots of fun. Lexie enjoyed the weekend she loves kids and especially loves being around Hannah and McKenzie.

Mattie and Lexie Ready For Halloween

I took Mattie in for a hair cut and she came home all fru-frued up in her old lady git-up, and Lexie was already in her Halloween outfit so I had to take some pictures of the pair together. Now Halloween is all about tricks and treats, let me tell you this little photo shoot was BOTH. When we first started Lexie was so excited about sitting next to Mattie that her arms started going and then Mattie started growling. Neither, would pay attention to me, so Ryan got out the string cheese to get Mattie's attention. Then Lexie started crying and wouldn't hold still. We finally got two decent pictures with both of them.

Lexie has Pigtails

This last week I was able to spend some time with Lacie, being a hair idiot I asked her what I should do about Lexie's growing hair. She looks like Cramer off of Seinfield half of the time with curly hair on top and striaght messy hair on bottom. I' ve been debating on wether I should cut some of it off so it doesn't hang over her ears. Lacie suggested that I try pigtails. So we did, they were pretty cute for about 15 minutes and then Lexie had them pulled out and her hair stuck out on the sides the rest of the day.

A few days latter I sprayed her entire head with gel, and brushed all her hair into curls. This made her entire head of hair stick up all over in curls. I thought she looked pretty cute. Her Dad would have hated it, but oh well, he was at work!

Pumpkin Patch

One afternoon, Lexie and I left Ryan at home and we headed off to Firth to find a BIG PUMPKIN. I have big plans to carve one out and then take pictures of Lexie inside. (Those pictures will be coming soon.) So we were on a mission to find a cheap, large pumpkin before they were all gone. Mission accomplished! We found the perfect pumpkin patch and three good sized pumpkins. The biggest one is so large I had to roll it to the car. While we were there I had to take some picture of Lexie's first adventure to a pumpkin patch. As you can tell she was thrilled. The sun was in her eyes and being a girly, girl she didn't think much of sitting in the dirt.

Cheeto Anyone?

Forget the bananas, carrots, squash, and
applesauce, bring on the cheetos and diet coke! This is one little girl who is happy about lunch. She must take after her mother.
